as they battle The above quote from U.S. Secretary of
Defense Robert Gates Throughout the course of history the United States military has conducted advising and training missions around the world. This includes advisors and advisor teams being deployed during times of peace as well as during wartime. Current 'advisor' terminology used by the United States military include Foreign Internal Defense (FID) and Security Force Assistance (SFA). There are multiple terms for advising to include 'advising', 'train, advise, and assist', 'train, advise, assist, and enable', 'combat FID', and 'combat advisor'.
